Findability Vocabulary
- 301 - this is used with Redirects and it is for permanent redirects
- 302 - this is used with Redirects and it is for temporary redirects
- 403 - Forbidden, the user does not have permissions to enter the page
- 404 - Not Found, a link is not working, and the page cannot be found
- 500 - Server Error, there is an error with the server, this is often used as catch all, and sometimes refreshing can resolve the error
- 504 - Gateway Timeout, the time allowed to reach the server has run out
- Accessibility – The development and design of websites and products that service the needs of people with disabilities.
- AdWords – Adwords are paid for links on Googles search engine that take people to website that relate to the search words entered.
- Analytics – Analytics is the process of using data to improve the SEO of a sight, Google provide data analytics.
- Black Hat – A Black Hat is a hacker who breaks into computer network with malicious purposes.
- Blog – Blog is short for ‘web log’, this refers to a list of written entries, anyone can write a blog and publish it on the internet.
- Bot – Bot is short for ‘robot’, this is an automated program that trawls the internet. They can execute commands, search for data, or follow links.
- Cloak – To Cloak means to hide information about yourself, such as your name and email address.
- Copyright – Copyright is the protection of a persons work such as music, art, literature in any format and they are protected for the lifetime of the author + 70 years.>
- Crawler – A crawler is a piece of software that follows links to their end and return information, they are also called ‘spiders’.
- Findability – Findability is the term used to describe how easy it is to find your web page and more importantly the content within it.
- Grey Hat – A Grey Hat is a hacker who breaks into a system or network, with no malicious intent, sometime for fun, and will on occasion report it to the relevant authorities for profit.
- Indexing – Indexing is the process of sorting data to make searches faster.
- Information Architecture – Is the design of information in a website or application that allow us to understand and follow the flow of the information.
- Injection – Injection is the method of injecting code or information into an information stream on the internet, usually for malicious purposes.
- Microformats - Microformats are a set of defined HTML classes created to serve as consistent and descriptive metadata about an element, designating it as representing a certain type of data (such as contact information, geographic coordinates) Wikipedia (2021).
- Ranking – Organising pages into the most popular according to search engine results.
- Search – There are many platforms available to search the internet the most common is Google, it indexes large amounts of data to make the searches faster.
- SEO – SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation, the aim is to get your website to appear at the top of searches, so it increases the chance of people finding your site.
- URL – URL stands for ‘Uniform Resource Locator’, it is an internet address that leads to a web page.
- Useability – Useability means the design of webpages and products that are intuitive and easy to use and navigate.
- Viral Marketing – Viral Marketing is the process of spreading information about a product, service or website, from one person to another by use of the internet or email.
- White Hat – A White Hat is a hacker that uses their skills for find vulnerabilities in web sites/networks, so that organisations can fix them. They are often employed by large organisations.
